A Ramble for Pepe

from Echoes From The Parlour by Crowyote

/

about

This performance comprises two main themes that were composed between in 2019 dedicated to the memory of my uncle Carlos H. "Pepe" Nichols, "Don Pepe" and "Don Carlos." I was heavily influenced by Henry Worrall's "Tuned Like Sebastopol" pieces in Open D Major tuning aka "Vestapol" from the 19th century, as well as Fahey's brilliant evolutions of these works. I hope that this piece conveys Pepe's capricious humor and fascinating multi-faceted mercurial personality.

I performed this rambling medley live on my Facebook feed on July 19. 2019 shortly after acquiring my Taylor 352CE 12 string guitar, there are no cuts I only faded in (because the Shure MV88 was clicking at the beginning of the performance), some spatial "mastering," and some reverb at the end.

Crowyote is the alter-ego, the other of Perry Brooks Nichols, an artist and musician based in Dallas, TX. In 2003, an ancient shaman guided him through the portal of time and showed him his nature through the smoke. I seek to clear the fog, shatter stylistic modalities and challenge the accepted conventions of performance, execution and technique by juxtaposing new technology and old traditions. ... more
